A small area of rust on my front passenger wing has just
popped through creating a 1 inch diameter hole.
Anyone got any tips for me on filling the hole in?
As I'm a total novice who has never done any body filling whatsoever

if its a hole m8 its a waste of time and effort trying to fill it imho.
you need a patch welding in and then smooth it out with filler.
you could fibre glass mat it over the back but it will always be a bodge up at best. and if theres a 2 inch hole thru then there'll be at least 4 inches of panel rotten,, probably more.
might be worth a replacement panel?

Your right rozzlink. Always better to replace with metal.
Surely welding a patch should be no problem for an experienced welder?

probably best to get a welder to look at it really,,, they need good quality metal to weld to and it can sometimes be quite suprising how much they have to chop out just to find some thats thick and sound enough to weld to.
best of luck with it anyhow m8

Hole Filling Tips
That hole will have to have a plate welded on to it or the panel will have to be replaced because it appears to be close enough to the lower n/s seat belt mounting to be an MOT failure. The mounting in question is behind the narrow vertical panel on the r/h side of the photo.

Not a bad price for the welding IMHO - but if you need new panels get Scholfields ones .. not JK .. much better fit and finish and worth the few extra pence
... looks like your door edge corner is under attack from the rust worm too!
