Urgent help needed with oil leaks

Post by skins »

1981 VW A/C

OK - really need some help with oil leaks - think is usual stuff, leaky pushrod seals etc. I have tried today to remove the pushrod tubes to replace the seals but could not get the pushrods out - managed to replace the rocker cover gasket but now that is leaking :x There also seems to be oil dripping very slowly off the petrol (?) pump and from a couple of other places - although the oil loss is not too big.

I am supposed to be off to Czech on the 14th June and so need to get the leaks fixed within next two weeks but this is definately not possible by myself. I have minimal mechanical knowledge and about i month experience with a VW...so far not such a good experience

So is there anybody out there that lives near or is willing to come to Cambridge and have a look and maybe fix - I can offer something in the way of labour costs and am willing to help :)

Thanks
P

aah, you bought an Aircooled :? . you will soon be a vw mechanic(with the time spent under the van), or you will need a deep pocket. or be freindly with a vw mechanic, then theres the hypothermia issue. then once youve fixed it you will need to be prepared to spend all of your wages on petrol  . but people do like Aircooled vans and will argue the point. i suppose you get used to them, like when your stuck in bad employment(rut), it just seems hard to get a fresh break  if you know what i mean

(that should get em to bite) come on then lets hear how great they are !!

dear me here we go again............................weaselchin whats your problem????
the man was asking for help not criticism in his choice of engine / bus. My mam always told me "if you got nothing useful to say dont say anything". You may like to follow her advice. it seems you are out to pi$$ off every Aircooled owner here.Once again you start bumping your gums at another newbie. dont you want new members??? or is it all "tongue in cheek humour" which perhaps im "missing"
skins if i was nearer i would pop round and sort it for you. if you follow the guide in the haynes manual its not that difficult honest!!
just ignore dieselweaselchin he is just blinkered

The last thing I want to do is offend anyone, but people should remember

'Wise men speak because they have something to say: fools because they have to say something'

And YES I do own an Aircooled VW.

We are all here because we share an interest in old VW's. Air or water cooled. At the end of the day each person made their own choice on which to buy for their own reasons.
Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.
