waterproofing pop top canvas

Post by gifftopher »

Ok I know it's never going to be completely waterproof unless you replace it with some kind of nautical millenium uber-fabric that costs an arm and a leg but I saw this thread on a forum about soft tops:

They talk about Thomson Waterseal being the same stuff as Fabsil and obviously a lot cheaper. Anyone tried it?

nope but I bought a pop top thermo mat thing to keep it warm in the winter and cool in the summer plus its water proof

yep, that sounds like a good option. Thing is I don't have time (away on Friday) plus I barely have enough spare cash for beer let alone thermo wotsits...

I used Fabsil and I don't know why but it was pouring in at the last wet bustypes .......
And I virtually soaked it in the stuff.

Never had a major problem with water coming in through the poptop canvas, even in torrential rain

I fitted a proper poptop, ie a fully waterproof devon, rather than a draughty tent , suited to 24/7/365 camping , a proper british conversion for british, not califorian weather:P

Update:

didn't do anything, didn't leak too bad (and it rained. Alot). Moral of the story: Don't get your knickers in a twist.
