Is it the relay or the switch - I'm too tight to go and buy a relay just to find out it is the switch

one minute the intermittent is working, the next only super fast is and the rear one suddenly decides to work.

What a choice you have!!!
Mine do slow, and a little bit faster than slow!!
Rear wiper - about 6'2" and has to be persuaded to leave the vehicle to provide said function! Admittedly, he could probably keep up....
2lt a/c!
Gotta love the van.
Hope you get your wipers sorted, you cheap stoodent, you!

after carefully considering the options, drinking tea and eating chocolate, I can absloutely and 100% say that it COULD be either the relay or the switch.
It could also be that your van just wants to express itself in its own way, whether you want the wipers on or not. Is it a woman, per chance? Just ell people you have some very clever electronics that asses the psi of water on the windscreen and adopt the relevant wiper setting!!!
Sorry - absoutely NO help whatsoever!!

when you switch the wipers onto intermittent can you hear the relay click every time its supposed to wipe?
When i took the rear wiper assembly off mine to change it the electrcal connection had gunk on it, something to check on.
Are there contacts in the steering column that have become worn? There was on my toyota van i had, a piece of deftly positioned silver paper sorted that.
Mine works 99% weel, the other 1% is entirely random and is far more fun, waiting to see what happens next.

wiper problem
sounds like the motors 1st speed is intermitantly faulty, the intermittant and the first permanent speed both use the same motor brushes but the second speed uses a different brush to make the motor work faster hope this helps
