Couple of tech Q's

Post by Devs »

Firstly, When i turn the ignition on in the van, my temperature guage goes from cool all the way off the scale and stays there, even if the engine hasn't been running, is this a common fault and an easy fix??? any ideas on where to start fault finding?

Secondly, whilst filling and bleeding my engine, i noticed there are 2 bleed valves within the engine compartment aswell as the valve on the top of the rad, i have manged to get all the air out of the rad, but i do not appear to get anyting from the bleed valves within the engine bay, am i doing something wrong??? is there a right and wrong way to bleed this part of the system???

thirdly, i am looking into lowering the van, at present she sits proudly on standard shocks and springs, i am pondering either a -45 or -60mm drop, will i need to uprate the shocks to accomdate the extra load or will the standards suffice

thanks for advice in advance

Answers to the second and third questions are in the WIKI at the top of the page.. and in other posts using the search feature.

As for the gauge, either the sender has gone closed circuit (replace it) or the wire is earthing out on something.. the red led should flash all the time too..

Depends on the year of van.. either in the black plastic "tower" where the bleed screw is, or early vans had it in the thermostat housing near where the waterpump is.
does the led work at all? could be a dodgey connection in the dash affecting the gauge, or the gauge actually faulty..
