t25 Aircooled electrical probs
have just spent the entire day trying to get the main beam and wipers working on our T25, full beam working fine, as are side lights indicators, tail lamps, brake lights basically all the other electrics apart from, the Wipers, Washer bottle pump, and main beam, i have cleaned all the earth points replaced all the spade connectors with new items and wire wooled all the contacts on the fuse box, have even taken off the wiper stalk cleaned and checked all the contacts, this is driving me nuts wipers were fine, then driving home the other evening (on a dark and winding road of all places) headlamps just died, and since then we lost the wipers and washer bottle pump to!! had to drive home on full beam and upset quite a few people thank god it didnt rain !!!! anyone got any ideas or know a good auto-electrian in northampton this is driving me nuts!!
forgot to add all fuses fine present and correct!!! and all earth straps clean and rust free!
could it be the load-reduction relay thought this relay was ok but thinking about it, it clicks when full beam is on should i be expecting a click when either the wipers, main beam, or washer pump is active???
is there a good way of testing this relay as i do have a spare but seems to be exactly the same!!!
right swaped the relay for a new one, now this is odd wipers and washer pump works when headlights are on full beam, turn off full beam ie backed to dipped and wipers stop working ARGGGGHHHH!!!!!, any ideas??

Hello, could take some time to sort out. First thing I'd check for is to see if you have feed to the wipers, washer and main beam. I suspect not because not working. Then find the correct fuse and check that you have power across the fuse. If no power to the fuse then go to the switches and find the correct wires and check that switches are putting feed out. This is point you in the direction of whats at fault but are all three things run from the same fuse? are all the earths connections behind fuse box clean and good, common problem area. This should keep you busy for a little while and hope it helps. Cheers

have cleaned and replaced all the connectors on the multi point earth (crown like thing mounted up behind glove box) even scraped some paint from behind the earth point so its sitting on bare metal! will check across all fuses tomorrow, i take it that the relay should remain closed when there is high current drain?

hi kieran, yep keet told me about your leccy probs, dont you just love these vans lol, one minute everything is fine next minute everything is balls to the wall you should see the van at the mo looks like spagetti junction !!!
Big red bus also tried running a direct link from battery to the spider still nothing gonna have a look at the main full beam switch on the column as this appears to be the source ie when full beam is on everything works...
so like you said maybe there is a contact in there that is not making contact when in the dipped position..

blue brickie if i am reading everything right and working from the wiring diagrams in heynes manual right i think i have traced the fault back to the ingnition switch i have got the wipers running by creating a live conection from one point on the fuse box to the live point (yellow and black wire) on the fuse box, so we have wipers this is temporary (and fuse still in line just incase) but reading the diagrams the yellow black wire from ignition switch goes to J59 relay thus tripping the relay this wire also runs to the main beam positive on the fuse board (blue brickie) take it your side lights and all other lights work? gonna check ignition switch thoroughly in the morning but if it is like ours then i am 99% sure this is the fault (ours is not helped by the fact at some point someone rewired part of the ignition system using different coloured wires so took me a while and a multi meter to trace them back!!!!

yep deffo ignition switch all sorted now we have lights, wipers and washers
blue brickie check with a multi meter bet you have no 12v feed from yellow
and black wire on ignition switch with the key turned to position 2, you can temp get round this by picking up a positive feed from the thickest black wire off the switch connector block, not the thin wire as loading may be to great...
will do us until i can get a new ignition switch!!!
