Hi guys
Just bought my first camper, an 85' 1.9DG Autosleeper. It needed a new starter so I replaced it and the non charging light came straight on so I then replaced the brushes on the alternator and the light stayed on so then I replaced the alternator and the light is still on.
With the engine off the battery reads about 12.3v but with the engine running it goes down to 12v. I have checked all the connections to the starter and alternator and they are fine. I guess the recon starter could be faulty, is there any way of testing the solinoid part?

Sure you hav`nt knocked off the connector from the alty that triggers the warning light on the dash? seems strange that you fitted the starter and then you have a charging fault?
To test it, connect jump lead earth to the casing (bolting down lug) and then you need to connect the +ve lead across BOTH the small spade terminal (where the small wire connects to) and the big screw terminal that the +ve battery lead connects to, this will throw in the solenoid which moves the gear forward, then the gear will spin up as it gets 12V through the big screw terminal.

Sounds like a fault with the 'red light' wiring.
The alternator needs this wire connected to excite the coils in the alternator and start the charging process.
The dashboard end of the circuit is +ve, earthing the engine bay end will light the light.
Check the wiring to the alternator, look for wires chaffing on the metalwork.
Take the red light wire off, does the red light go off?

some alternators are designed to not charge if the battery voltage is below 12.6 volts.i replaced one [new] and it would'nt charge untill i charged the battery [with a battery charger] to 13.8 volts.
so.. try charging it .
