TD turbo oil feed pipe warning !

Post by Westy.Club.Joker »

Just changed the rusty looking turbo oil feed pipe (1.6TD engine) Once I`d removed the old one, it was unbelievable that it wasn`t pouring oil out under pressure, it was so thin and eaten away, especially where the bracket holds it to the rear of the head  Looks like I had a lucky escape :? The pipe didn`t look that bad where you could easily see it, just that when it was off it it was obvious it was a disaster waiting to happen.

Anyone with this motor that has a rusty oil feed pipe to the turbo, I would advise you change it before it changes the oil for you (on the motorway).

New ones available from Peter Gunzl (VW dealers have `em on back-order for ever :( ) Also changed the oil return line from the turbo to the sump as it had a weep round the swaged end fitting. Pattern part available again from Gunzl.
Keep it real.
