Horn button
At some point in vans past, the horn button has stopped working,
and been substituted for a button on the dashboard.
If .....its a broken wire in steering column
(pulled of VW centre button and found no power)
would it be a pain to repair?
is it likely something else?
cheers

Check the condition of the actual switch too, and see if works with the meter. My horn stopped working, and it was just that the contacts inside the switch were all green and furry and needed polishing up a bit.
Also, to save you scratching your head, if you didn't already know the horn has a permanent 12V feed, and is earthed by the push button.

Take off the plastic shroud (two pieces) that surround the steering column
& check the actual earth connection for the horn. This is a spade connection 3/4 the way down on the r/h side of the column (brown wire), this is a common fault.

my van has never had the horn, except on one accasion, when a roundabout seemed to get it all over excited, it wouldnt stop showing off the fact it got its horn back. i did a few laps slapping the horn until it was satisfide, and ive not heard a peep (or beep) from it since Even took it on a date to basingstoke.
Might go and have a fidle now.

As previously stated the shroud is in 2 pieces, one either side of the steering column & sort of clipped together & iirc secured at the top (both sides) by a screw. Just undo the screws & carefully ease off the shroud.
Replacement is the reverse of removal but can be a bit fiddly particularly when trying to align the screw holes.
