knackered?

Post by kathyshack »

As you may remember a few weeks ago i posted up about my brothers T25 (1.9dg) and its oil leak.
He got it through its MOT last week and taxed and insured it. On the way up to the Lakes on the M6 on friday night, it lost all power. They pulled over on hard shoulder and then it dumped a load of oil all over the hard shoulder. RAC came out and just recovered it home....

Is it knackered? what would you do with it? very tight budget - well hardly anythign actually....

Have a good look-see before deciding anything, maybe someone else local to have a look as well, maybe serious, maybe not? Costs nothing to look.
Keep it real.

most likely cause of oil dump is push rod tubes, so relatively cheap to fix
else crankshaft oil seals, cheap parts, expensive labour unless diy/get help
where else might oil escape? filler tube, rocker covers, oil pump, all fixable with cheap parts. or pick up a 2nd hand dg lump for not too much...
I'd help him fix it but wrong end of country....

Total loss of power and oil coming out sounds terminal to me.

unfortunately, i realised quite soon into T25 ownership, 'cheap' fixes just aint worth a t*ss, engine-wise, anyway. do it properly [ie. spend some money] or just scrap the thing, sorry but it's true.
