my van is a 1.9dg. its is cutting out a bit after a run at trafic lights and roundabouts etc. I'm getting a new engine fitted in a few weeks as got water problems and other stuff, (tired engine really) but had a strange thing happen today which i'd like to run by you... On the way from Wasdale to Keswick, I was driving along, when i suddenly lost power. it was almost as if it had cut out, or the type of thing it does when you run out of gas and need to flick to petrol. oil can light came on, and temp needle dropped right down. Had my foot on the accelerator pedal and nothing.... dead....I was driving on a decent road at around 40mph. just as i put my hazards on and strated to pull over, power came back. mm that was wierd i htought. Then it did it again. was running on gas and although i know i had loads of gas i flicked to petrol to see if i'd some how miscalculated. again, power came back and it was fine. about 10 min later, it did it again. temp light, oil can light on, temp needle drop suddenly. As it did it on both gas and petrol, i don't think it could be a fuel problem. It was quite strange. Anyway, we stopped at keswick for a couple of hours before setting off back to blackburn. - No problems at all!
Any idea what this problem could be? It might just be another thing confirming my engine is on its way out, or be totally unrelated and a problem with a loose wite or something like that... Due to go to Anglesey next weekend, but don't want to go if its likely to happen again, as its quite dangerous loosing power like that, and don't like the idea of it happening whilst summer is onboard. The fact that it was fine however all the way from keswick to blackburn, possibly suggests it might have been a freak thing??
what ya reckon?

we had a very similar problem on wendys old vitara, that turned out to be a faulty immobiliser killing the engine intermittently, it would cut the engine then bump start itself again if travelling at any speed. might be worth checking the electrics to whatever immobilisers usually disconnectn for a bad connection, possibly the ignition coil? someone else might know better on that.
