Now i'm getting better at all the run of the mill stuff but i've still never taken off a major suspension bit or anything. Thing is yesterday i exited a roadworks ramp at what i thought was slow a enough speed and i hear a big crack noise! Now it's not too bad, i'm only getting it when i hit bigger bumps with the passenger side only, not when i hit something with both wheels dead on. I jacked it up and had a good look and tried to waggle everything but it all looks dandy. Any ideas? Good diagnosis methods? Got me mate to jump up and down on the arch and nothing. Shock still has damping, spring hasn't brocken and appears to be seated correctly.
on my van it was the near side top ball joint!.jack the van up so the wheel is clear of the ground and grab the wheel at 6 o' clockand 12 o'clock and push/rock the wheel while looking at the ball joint.
good luck,barry

Thanks folks i'll ckeck it out. My hunch is anti roll bar bush as it sounds lke it might be coming from a little closer to centre where taht bush is. Time will tell.
Try the wheel bearing first. Mine was quite loose and gave very similar symptoms. Tightened up it was fine. I fitted a complete new bearing to be on the safe side but there was no sign of wear or damage to the original.
The bearings were done less than 3k ago - or so the last owner said but he said lots of things that were "Balls". I'm going to have a poke about now- yesterdays rain has abated and now i'm only at moderate risk of being drowned like a rat! Who'd want to live here?
