Hi Yall.
Got fitting kit today for the dellortos. So before i get to the probem of what happens to the wireing on and around the existing carbs.
When fitting drla 36, what happens to the existing wiring?

i now wondering where the vacumn pipes go.
also the aditional problem of being sold the T2 kit (he says i said T2!) slimmer filters and lowering the engine mount 1/4in will do it. plus i have to atatch the connecting bits myself, where and how? has any one done this or know how it should be done?
there's a lot of space in there with out all the gubins!

Installation of Delortos
Any chance of a couple of photos showing how it fits in, vacuum pipes confusing me as well

The vaccuum pipes off the brake servo need to go too the vaccuum take off's on your inlet manifolds. I had these fitted to mine as the cb kit i bought did not have them, got my stuff from vw shop. If you don't have these done your brakes won't work correctly!!
The vaccuum tubes of the vaccuum advance on the dizzy are as follows, done as if looking down at the dizzy.
The tube running to you carb needs to run to your dellorto carb vaccuum port,mine was on the right hand carb. the other tube which connects to your air filter needs blocking off. Also you will need to get an anti pulse valve, you can these from euro carb for a about £10, they also do a goos manual on dellorto carbs which is really usefull. Make sure you run the engine breather pipe outside the van otherwise you'll choke yourself!!
If you haven't fitted your carbs yet i would do a pre tune on them first as its easier to do, when i did mine they ran straight away no probs.
just one more thing, i had to get 1.5" air filters for mine to fit under the engine lid.You won't get velocity stacks for these but for a van you won't need em. I also had to cut away the bar which runs accross the middle of it and dis off the foam to help cut out engine noise, but when you fire 'em up you'll want to here 'em purr!!

is there a best posision for the brake take offs on the T2 manerfolds?
do you have any pretuning settings, my dlra's are off of an alfa.
about the siting tohigh thing, theyre sending the 1.5 filters, and may have to lop off top of crossbar mounting bracket.
the adv. vac pipe, dose it go on the carb with the one more tube than the other.

which kit did you buy?
i go the cb kit for a type 4 engine.
the vaccuum take off's for the brake servo are above the intakes for cylinders 1 and 3. I don't think it makes a difference as long as you make sure everything is air tight.
The vaccuum advance tube goes to my right hand carb as this one has the pot for it. It is located on the right of the carb looking from the right as fitted.
If you you've not had your carbs rebuilt you'll need to to get them jetted correctlly for your van, did you get them off the alpha guy on ebay??
I had to take a little of the crossbar mounting bracket. If it is the same as mine it will have three holes in it, you will use the lowest one.
Just one more thing. On some research i found that the fuel line was taken to the left carb then to the right through a double banjo. I have found since this that this can create a lean condition on the right hand carb during higher rev's ie on the motorway. I there used single fule banjos on each carb with a fuel line 't'. I also put a fuel regulator in there as they only want a max of 3.5 bar, your stock fuel pump can go up to 10 bar.
if you haven't got the dellorto tuning manual i suggest you get it, it will deal with most of your probs. but it was written for bugs.
the settings i have for my 2.0 ltr a/c

130 main jets

I got it as it mentioned it in the dellorto manual i bought. Spoke to euro carb and they told me it should have one.They sell them for £10.
Basically the book say's ' An anti pulse valve will flatten the vacuum pulses and improve advance control'.
It should help give you more power when under load, going up hills or accelerating. Not tested it yet, still got the windows out on my van.

i have the correct jets, only had to replace 1. vacume take offs went on fine and the slimmer filters fit.
Mixture skews are at 5 tunes out, how do i go about finding the correct position?
Also, is there a left and a right carb, as my vac adv is on the left carbs?

In the dellorto manual it says for mixture,
turn them in slowly all the way, then turn them out three turns counter clockwise. The only real way of telling is getting on a rolling road to fully set them up.
As for the vacuum advance, mine is on the right hand carb. I suppose each pair is different as they are second hand. Do both your carbs have the vaccuum ports on? if so you only need to use one, not sure if you need to block the other off though. Speak to matt at euro carb, he's really helpfull.
