leccy help needed

HELP!

right, my LHD van has an earth lead joining the 2 batteries together (see pics)

as I'm re-trimming the cab area it'll be a pain to hide this cable

any of you leccy minded peeps think I can just run n earth the body work next to each battery, and cut this cable out?

It doesn't go to anywhere else, just connects the batteries

the brown wire in pic 2 is for the split charge, is quite thin so no probs with that one

van used to be fitted with a winch, hence the huge cables

I have individual earth wires for each battery. There may be a technical reason that makes joining them beneficial but providing you make good earth connections there is no practical reason to join them with a wire.

yeh I'm pretty sure my old leisuredrive was earthed either side with just one thin cable for split charge pos +

I would still use heavy duty cables to join the battery +ve. Using thin cable will limit the amount of charge you get into the LB. And don't forget a fuse close to each battery +ve in case of any damage to that cable.

It could be i've missed something but if you are absolutely positively sure that the wire in question is the ground then all you need to do for both batteries is connect it to the chassis somewhere in the battery compartment. Just make sure that there is a fair bit of bare metal between the chassis and wire termination and it'll take all the current you can throw at it.

These vans were designed so the chassis is the ground connection so if you need to power something from the battery all you need to do is run a single wire from the battery positive terminal and then you can connect the ground to anywhere on the chassis.

not missed anythin mate, that's what I'm getting at, this wire seems a little pointless

ideally want to get rid, and earth each battery individually

just wondered if anyone had a technical reason not to
