Filler neck collar removal?

Post by Brooky »

As is quite common on T25s, I've got rust around the fuel filler aperture on my bus. I'd like to sort it out but I need to remove the fuel filler neck collar. From what I can feel, it seems to have several little 'ears' on the back face. Is the collar supposed to turn through a few degrees to line these ears up with corresponding cut-outs in the metalwork or is there some other cunning ruse necessary? The reason I ask is because I simply cannot move mine at all. If I don't get it out soon, it'll fall out as the metal around it returns to its natural state!

You just need to remove the screws that hold the backing ring onto the collar then it turns just as you describe, you just have to be a little forceful when you turn it as it will have rusted into place.

Many thanks Paul. I didn't realise there was a backing ring in there as well. The rubber tube that connects the collar to the filler neck is getting a bit perished as well so I'll be killing two birds.
Thanks again.
