fridge question

Post by Kool-Kamper »

my fridge works really well on hookup but doesn't on battery.
it is a 3 way fridge which we had disconnected from the gas as I have small children which thought that it was funny playing with the knobs!
anyone know how I can fix it?

you need to find out if power is really getting to it first, it should only work when the engine is running

Yes, it only runs on 12V when the engine is running.
A fridge run straight off the battery would suck it empty in a few hours.

The other thing is that in order to test it, you will have drive around for a good bit, as cooling on 12 V is not great. It is designed to hold temperature rather than to significantly lower it. So cool down the fridge on 230V first (possibly on full blast so that you get ice forming in the freezer bit) and then drive for a good while ..if it keeps the temperature, it is working.

These fridges work best on gas though.
