Fuel tank swapout :(

Post by dublicious »

Lo Guys,

Need to replace my fuel tank for a 1989 2.1i westy. Is this the right tank http://shop.justkampers.com/product_inf ... s_id/10667

Not sure if GSF do them as website doesn't indicate?

Also what other parts are recommended to be replaced when doing this, like seals etc?

How do you measure the neck size of the tank? I have measured the hose going into the tank and it is 38mm, apparently neck should be 45mm???

Take care,

J

Yep on the new bus, but no biggy. Dealer is great, offering to sort and pay, just saving some leg work for him and I would prefer to get sorted local to save going all the way back down there again. Plus I want it done ASAP :)

The JK tank is descibed as Petrol Injection only. Anybody know why it would be any different from other tanks?

That is the one as long as you have a plastic filler pipe (which you should have on an 89) Do not forget to get all the seals for breathers filler etc. you may also want / need to change the breather pipes, fuel line and filter while you are at it.

Lo m8

Plastic filler pipe, think it is rubber if it is the one you fill at the old petrol station through, will check.

Shame I cant get you to fit at the same time you do the LPG conversion. I dont really want to do anything extra as it will be done by a garage and also the dealer is picking up the bill for the fuel tank. Cant find a garage I trust around here or get into, plus they have no idea about tee25's

I am not Steve Shaw I just put his link in my sig as he does such a good job. Are you going to Steve's to get the LPG conversion or is it being done on site? Will they not do it for you then?

I would not think about changing the tank and then not doing all the other work needed to make a propper and safe job of it. Would you expect to buy a new engine that had been built with used 20 year old seals? I would be inclined to go back to the dealer to get it fixed or get them to agree to stumping up for all the parts needed to do the job correctly. There must be some 80-90 boys and girls round your way that can give a hand to fit it.

ah right, sorry dude. I assumed you are the same

I have agreed with dealer that I order the tank and source a local bod to do and he will foot the bill, more than fair I thought. I would rather that then have to drive a 3 hour round trip to get a 2 hour job done by his guy.

I will be replacing all the gaskets and seals on the tank, will access when the tank is off on the rest.

Dont think there are any peeps around here apart from Tigs. That reminds me I must pop up and see her :)

Take care,

J
