is there a mod in the Bentley manual that involves chopping bits of cardboard from around the radiator?

Maybe I just dreamt that . .

Anyone?

Could also be the adjustment of the cable behind the dashboard. Sometimes the clamp which holds the cable to the lever that you move left or right comes undone, so when you move the lever the whole cable moves, and not the inner bit. If the clamp came undone in the hot position then you can do what you like with the lever and it will stay hot. the clamp is only a self tapper and a little piece of metal. You may be able to reach up under the dash and find the cable by wiggling it. If you then hold it and move the lever to the left it may turn off the heat and save taking everything apart.
failing that, on the other end of the cable is a little valve like a 1/4 turn kitchen tap. to see this you have to drop the spare wheel and look up inside, should be a black and blue plastic thing with the hoses attached and the cable from the lever. If the cable is not working then you can operate it from there for nought.
I think bigbluebus refers to a modification for hot countries to limit the amount of hot air which passes through the radiator that reaches the cab. This mod forces the hot air down and under.
Hope this helps, Simon.
Is your camper white, and did I see you and a bunch of lads coming out of Mere onto the 303 last saturday. If it was you I was in the slow Kangoo hoping you would overtake so I could have a looksee.

had the same thing on one of the Scirocco's, t'was the clamp bit nearer to the valve than the control end, simple fiddle with bit of kit, you just need to keep the inner and outer cables from moving in the same direction.

Although, potentially, your valve could be nacked (though unlikely) , and that i know nowt about, sorry.

Good luck

may also be a bent inner wire on the control cable, mine was hot when the lever was showing cold when i first got it, the inner wire was all mangled, bit of careful straightenin sorted it. just an idea. :)
