Have any of you considered painting or recovering the cupboard doors?

) so I am thinking of making some changes.

Last year the autosleeper factory were able to find me some original wood and the wood trim to make a new door. They used to own their own furniture manufacturer which is why their quality was far better than most. That was shut down but they still had some materials knocking about. Other than that a good clean with white spirit helps.

The woodwork is fine and all doors are still ok (including hinges) but the door coverings are bugging me.
I hadn't thought of using fablon but I wll check out those options.
One thing I did consider was a coat of some coloured varnish. I suppose if I didn't like the result I could then use fablon.

I would also like to keep the beading around the edges aswell as re varnishing the frame.
Totally agree about the quality...just think this piece of furniture has been in the van for over 20 years.. damp ..hot .. knocked and grazed and it still scrubs up and doesn't rattle or creak...amazing

I haven't looked at any modern Transporter style conversions. I am thinking my next will be a little larger with built in shower etc.
My wife is now disabled so using campsite showers will probably be difficult for her. Not sure yet which way to go but we still intend camping as much as possible.

The panels of the cupboard doors in my camper have been painted in Lapis blue, that's a sort of royal blue I suppose. It looks quite nice once you get used to it. I looked at several Auto-Sleepers at Bus Types & I now know what my van would have looked like originally.

The paint which is Homebase non-drip gloss was applied by the previous owners so it has been on for quite a while now. In fact there is a sticker for Bus Types 2005 on one of the cupboard doors so the paint has lasted at least 2 years.
The same paint has been used on the rear of the wardrobe facing the n/s rear window but this has started to crack due to sunlight.
If you are at Van West in 2 weeks time you can look at the cupboard doors in my van & judge for yourself.
