actually split on bend
where can I get these from cheaper than VW?

Diesel injection pipes...
Are the pipes leaking or the joints? nip up the joints.. or replace the pipes.. any diesel injection specialist should be able to make or get them.. or perhaps speak with Simon at Brickwerks...

Try Syncrospares for a set of good second-hand ones, otherwise it`s VW for OE ones.

just to update:
Finally gave up big time this afternoon, turning off the A26!
Diesel all over engine, engine bay, back door, bumper etc
Smoke everywhere!
Anyway it had split on the final bend, thus releasing contents everywhere
Hopefully got a non leaking s/h one coming nest week.
perhaps I'll get better mpg- never know
