Does the Open-Loop LPG system have any effect on changing/replacing bits of th exhaust system - my silencer and tail pipe look like they need replacing and whole system needs a good check and prob a spot-weld or two as I think it might be sucking in air (correction - The ever helpful 'toomanytoys' recons that could be the cause and I concur)
Going to Volkstech in Morecambe who are great on air-cooleds but less knowledgable on LPG - would/should it affect what they can/should do (and not do)?
She needs a bit of a service really overall so taking her in tomorrow for a look over by them... Have a list of stuff to look into just want to stick with them as VW a/c specialists rather than LPG fitters... ANything I/they should know?

some lpg systems for Aircooled engines have probes poking into the exhaust system somewhere, or some sort of heatsink attached to part of the exh. to warm up the gas vaporiser from what i understand, but other systems dont have this, so it depends what type you've got fitted.
if it has got one of these heating set ups im sure it could be refitted to your new exhaust if its ready for one.

Replacing whole exhaust system (in due course)
Popping is due to a small crack in the nearside heat exchanger - meanwhile offside is showing it's age as well (25 years!) and will prob go a similar way in about a year tops - silencer's old and tailpipe has crumbled away and half snapped off. And needless to say the gaskets are very very very worn/old/decrepid.
SO will be a whole new exhaust system in due course - not essential yet but one to save my pennies for... (Will get wedding out of the way first!)
Anything I'd need to know about replaceing this whole system with the open-loop LPG in place???

Thanks
Will do - as long as it doesn't involve playing with the system then that should be OK with/for a mechanic who's not LPG bloke?

just cut the probe bezzle out of the silencer,( i would cut the silencer rather than try to grind out the bezzle) and fit to new one, but remember you need to "punch" through the baffles where the probe is going to insert in the new silencer.
