Good thought....i just made mine from same material as the"specialists" use- wonder if they spray? never noticed any mention. Where would one purchase said item? Never seen before...

I bought my new curtains from Brown's Textiles of Burscough, Lancs. & even the header tape has ''flame retardant'' printed on it. :)

Last year I enquired if a particular curtain material was suitable for seat/mattrees covers & they said yes but it needs to be treated with a flame retardant. The professionals have to be aware of the appropriate law on the sale of furnishings etc. ''The Furniture & Furnishings Fire Safety Regulations 1988''. :)

Hi Kimono, I made curtains for our van a couple of months ago. I bought 3 metres of fabric from the local fabric shop. It was 280 cms wide and was enough to do 7 curtains and tie backs, and there was spare left over.

You need to know the width of the fabric you are buying as that will affect how much length you need. Most fabrics are 145 cms wide, in which case I would advise 6 metres just to be on the safe side!!! It's not difficult to do, just time consuming, and is far cheaper than buying from one of the specialist websites.

Also I would advise choosing a fabric without a pattern as it makes it more complicated to match it up. I chose checked fabric and it complicated matters trying to get the checks to run around the van in one straight even line!

Hope this helps.

Nicola
Looking for: window apertures for side windows, at the back of the van
