Dizzy question including timming help needed!
I got a 2nd hand electronic dizzy for my CU engine. It came with all the wiring and 2 rotor arms...
one has a wide tip (about 10mm?) and the other was narrow (5mm?) both fit and i've run em both. It seems to run better with the wide one.......
......whick brings me to the timming. The haynes says 6-8 'A'tdc for electronic. I set it to that and it was fine for a while (a week or so)... then it was poping and sluggish so i checked the timming again. Was now 6 before!! I set it to 6 after and it wouldn't rev, sounded a mile out.
I've ended up seting it by ear and it runs better than ever (with the wide rotor arm)
What are the right settings?
Timing done without carb vaccume.

Well, the wider ones would stand a better chance of being in the right place at the right time, but also of arcing. If the dizzie timing is pretty well where it should be, it shouldn't matter too much I reckon.. maybe check which is the later part, if they're both VW

I thought the wider ones have an inbuilt rev limiter (5400 rpm) - mine works like that anyway tho I seldom rev it that high as it just feels wrong go to me.

So the difference isn't just in the width then...
so never mind the quality, just feel the width
