nightmare brakes (broken nipple)

Post by leroy99 »

i stripped both the front calipers today (binding) cleaned, derusted and painted and fitted with new seals.when i was bleeding the system i broke one of the bleed nipples. so i tried to get it out with an easy out, that bloody snapped off aswell (flush with brake). what do i do;
1. leave it as it is sealed with all the snapped of metal and just bleed from the brake line (evern though not all the air will get out)
2. can i take it to a pro like a machine shop to see if they can get it out
any advice much appreciated

I did just the same thing to my mkIII cortina many years ago, easi-outs are pretty much useless when things are siezed, never used one since. I got away with bleeding it through the hose with the caliper off the car so I could hold it a) the right way up to get all the air out (let the piston(s) come much further out then they would with the thing assembled then push them back in with the loose hose union at the top to get all the air out) and b) over a bucket with the pads out of the way - this makes a lot of mess. Otherwise you probably need another caliper as the easi-out will probably be too hard to drill and recreating a suitable theaded and coned hole for the nipple will be expensive assuming there is enough meat to go a size or two bigger, especially if the nipple needs burning out first.
Why does the not quite finished job before last always conspire with the not quite started job after next to make what you should be doing now harder?
