Oil leak

Post by tonytech »

The 'new vege' engine has developed a oil leak after 7000 miles.
2.1 litre dj.

I cant see where from, so before I take it back to the guy who fitted it any ideas?
After a 5mile trip there are 3or 4 small drips below the engine.
After 30-40 mile trip 10 or 12 larger drips.

The oil is dripping from the rear engine cross member. From above oil is collecting in the depressions in the cross member.

The 0.9bar oil pressure switch has been replaced.

I'm thinking cranckshaft oil seal behind the pulley?

Engine is still in Guarantee.

Oil Leak,,,

Post by Fritz »

I may have to agree with your assumption, coz the most likely place for it to leak could be the crank oil seal,,,,,,,,which is difficult to see clearly (from the underside) without taking off the engine support and mountings.

Sorted..

The crankcase breather was blocked ( the rubber had collapsed on itself)
The excess preasure was blowing oil past the seal.
