Hello BTW: Gearbox ?

Post by robeam »

Looking at a 1988 2.1 WC Multivan Westi and having taken it for a spin noticed that the gears are reversed as below:

2 4 R
1 3 5

Can anyone tell me if this is normal or if its due to a conversion etc etc.

Many thanks in advance

Adam

More like...

R 2 4
1 3 5

Yes completely normal, sort of for a 5 speed. Known a 'dog leg' 1st.
Will only take a short while to get used to.

Lots of useful stuff in the 'wiki' top of page. Has buying guide too iirc.
It's unlucky to be superstitious....

Thanks Very Much !!

A little nervous to be honest, I had a 72 Bay Westy which almost destroyed our family via my wallett, so hoping that this solution doesn't weigh in as expensive... :?

Fingers Crossed.

I believe you are making the right choice robeam...

at least you know where to come with any questions and maybe offer your own advice...

after all, throwing a wallet at a '72 Bay must have some uses :D

T25 CheckList

Post by robeam »

I did actually revise the buyers checklist before going and I took a buddy with the plan that while one of us was talking to the chap selling the van the other was searching all the hard to find rust spots and fingers crossed this van seems rock solid :D

The downside is that I dont know if the heater works etc he had no leasure battery hooked up to it ? Wait and see on that one.

Engine pulls well and a massive double bed

Cant wait picking it up on Sarurday morning so i will let you all know how the trip from Cornwall to bristol goes. :D

OKAY

Arrived safely back home yesterday, the bus didn't miss a beat. Very pleased with the drive filled up with juice in Helston Cornwall £52 ! and drove probably getting on for 270 miles back home to Bristol via Bude and North Devon. Used almost 3/4 of a tank which is almost the same as our 1.8CL Petrol Golf Estate !!

All in all very pleased and cant wait to get away in her now. I have some pics of the trip which I am going to post up tomorrow.
