Leisure battery v. low, eber not working when parked

Post by stevewright76 »

I'm guessing these two are related...

My eberspacher heater runs fine when we're driving but won't run when we're parked up :-(

I've now taken a closer look at the Zig unit and notice my leisure battey charge is REALLY low (like 5.5v - barely out of the red!)

I'm guessing these two are related as a kind club type told m at vanfest that eber heaters only work with a true 12v+ current.

So - if I'm parked up the volage must be way below that as leisure battery is so low...

Question is (based on trying to recharge it and having no effect) - is it poked now? Read this at: http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co ... attery.pdf and sounds like if it's lost that much power may never recharge...

So:

Should I replace it?

And how do I make sure it gets recharged while driving along? (Does Zig switch position affect this or is that automatic?)

Finally - could my fridge be drainign power when stopped or do they only draw power when driving? Previous owners use to remove a fridge spade connector so it was unwired unless driving - could the fridge drain the leisure battery like this? I thought they only drew battery power when going along - between gas use...?

Help and riddle-solving MOST appreciated.

Oh and finally finally - found these guys online http://www.batterymegastore.co.uk/cgi-b ... Deep_Cycle so wondering if that's best price or if Ulverston dealers likely to be as cheap???

Your fridge should not be connected to the leisure battery so should not affect it in any way. Your fridge should be wired via a split charge relay to the alternator & should only draw power when the engine is running.
When the vehicle is parked up you should use gas or 240v if fitted & available :)

Thought that was the case (hence leaving fridge wired up - think Mocki helped do that originally back in my vans distant past so am v. confident it's done right!) it only goes cold when I'm driving.

Just wanted to check this was prev owners paranoia not the drain on my battery - but...

Is my leisure battery poked or saveable/rechargeable?

Don't wanna shell out £50 on theories - hope someone can help!
