Finally managed to get new gas struts for the roof of my camper and fit them, finally the roof stays up all by itself! YIPPEE!!! now i have another problem one of the hinges is about to let go!!! any advice please
Its held with only 1 rivit against the camper roof, thats not gonna hold for long with the new struts in place, is there any secrets to mending the hinges without completely removing the roof!
I had the same problem with my pop top, the hinge near the back had ripped out of the body (to the van not pop top)
I had to drill out the rivots from the pop top on the back (& middle, so the roof lifted up more) then rivot the hinges back on (to the body) try getting longer rivots as this makes it alot stronger. Rivot onto body first then get a fat mate to sit on the roof so you can line up the holes for the hinges and poptop.
Hope this helps. It's not as hard as it looks (as long as your van roof isnt to rusty.

If the roof metal is a bit dodgy try using longer rivits and a steel backing plate on the inside to strengthen the roof, rivit through the lot. Make sure the plate, roof and hinge are all pulled tightley together when the rivits snap of. Use small bolts to fasten the lot down then remove one bolt at a time and rivit that hole, then the next etc. Seal all rivits with sealant so water cannot track through anywhere.
