In the current issue of "Volks World Camper & Bus", there is an article on a LHD California90/91 van. Much like mine.
There is a picture of the cab, showing all the knobs and lights , a cigarette lighter, the thing, and a map light - page 65.
What is the thing?

Special 12v power socket thingy, my old West had one on the dash and on near the lights about the sink and hob.

You need an adaptor to fit current standard 12v things into it
