Engines out!

Post by lidders »

Due to some extra stubborn exhaust studs I have had to remove the engine.

Whilst it is out, can any one suggest any other repairs, fixes or maintainence I should be looking at whilst it is on the bench?

Thanks in advance.

If it's a flat 4 a reinforcement to the alternator bracket is a good idea. A flat extension welded on the back of the bracket and screwed down to the block makes the whole arrangement a lot strurdier.

list is endless , water pump is cheap enough to replace , or you could do all the gaskets and seals :D

As suggested a new waterpump wouldnt hurt if you dont know how old it is.. and check all thehoses and clips around the cooling system..
I wouldnt touch the heads unless there is a coolent leak.. you could find yourself in deeper water if you do..
Rebuild the carb is also a good idea too.. GSF do the gasket kits.. its quite easy as long as you dont "adjust anything and put the jets back in the right place..
