Oil?

Post by Fox McIntyre »

I bet this has been posted a billion times, but does anyone know why my 1.9DG burns 15-50 mineral oil as opposed to the 10-40 Castrol GTX High milage semi synthetic? Is it wise to switch back to the 10-40? My owners manual says a 10-40 is fine but that was when the engine was new.. any ideas?

Doesn't your owners manual actually give you a choice of 3 grades of oil to use depending on the prevailing climate? The middle one of the 3 is normally 15W40 which I think is the one most peeps use in their WBX engines. :)

I recently used up the 15W40 oil that came with the van & I've already bought some VW Quantum 15W40 ready for the next oil change.

handbook gives you 3 multigrades, 3 single grades and some spooky magic oil that seems to do everything, I think i'll probs stick with 10-40 then as I know he likes that, don't want to keep spending on oil's he's gonna drink! :D
