No, as I said facing the same way... so at the back of the pump facing the front of the van, but higher up and nearer the injectors, in the pump top, not the body

Thats a totally different pump to mine! Ill have to look and see where it is on mine though. My engine is a 1.6 turbo JX engine. Is that one off an AAZ or something?

I found it anyway and gave it about half a turn. Jesus theres some difference! It has a bit of go in it now that it never had before! It runs on a little when I put in the clutch but its not really a problem. If I had given it any more it probably would become a problem. Anyway the hill coming up to my housing estate would have always required me to be in third gear before. I can do it in fourth now, so Im delighted. I just hope its not going to absolutely drink diesel now because of this.

Oh I had to adjust the idle as well cause it was ticking over far too fast when I did this. I actually set the idle to a little bit lower than it was before cause I always thought it idled a bit faster than was necessary anyway.

You could always turn your LDA pin round a bit, if you've got one, so the richening with boost curve is a bit steeper.
Then your economy should be a direct function of boot weight... go steady and it won't be much different, but give it a bootful and it should go as well as it does now.

But really, it wants more air now, doesn't it? - Yes :P

Im a real novice to diesel engine tuning. Whats an LDA pin, and how do I turn it around? Id like to up the turbo pressure a bit at some point and fit an intercooler. This will be forther down the line though cause I dont have the time or money right now.

Just been out in it, noticed it was noisy at high revs and thought i was being paranoid, shortly after alternator light came on, the alternator bearings have called it a day.

I am lost for words with how i feel about it now.

Good to see you and the pickup today Andy. It is truly impressive.

Stick with it ! What's a duff alternator compared with the engine ?

It means i am pissed off beyond belief with this thing. What next???

I used to have a beetle just like this and it did not matter what was replaced just in case something broke EVERYTIME i used it, the syncro is almost there, it was roadworthy for less than 24 hours.
