do I have to use a genuine vw washer or can I use any washer?

An aluminium washer would get you by, but best to use the intended copper 'crush' washer - pence from motor factors or even Halfords!

Just Kampers - part No. J11047 Sump Plug Seal. It's advertised as being for a/c but fits w/c as well. Price 39p. :)

or you could take your plug into any proper motor factors and say "you got a copper washer for that"..... :lol:

- just make sure its not too tight, threads should be cut away at face of plug anyway
