uprating the clutch

Post by NJ »

Hello. I am new to this forum. I bought my Syncro a couple of weeks ago.
It is a 1.6TD Syncro and I am having a 1.9TDI fitted into it. I have been told I need to uprate the clutch. I have also been told that there are off the shelf parts from VW and Audi that can be mixed to do the job, and they bolt straight on to the TD flywheel. Does anyone know about this and can anybody help me with part numbers etc.

Hi there, welcome to the scene !

There've been quite a few posts on this sort of subject, try using the forum 'search'. This thread for example.

What's your plan regarding the gearing ? The TDi needs to run at much lower engine speeds than any original Syncro motor, which usually means a gearbox rebuild or something equally drastic.

PS. What are you doing with your JX ? Is it any good ?
PPS. Where TF are you ? You're profile's not completed.
Syncrosport (taking a break as of summer 2024)
Volkswagen Transporter, reloaded.

Thanks for the replies. I've updated my profile.
That thread was useful, I'll have to get used to finding the info. I am going to put 15" wheels and tyres on it and see how it goes. The engine that's come out is knackered.
