Whot a journey home

I have finaly got home 19;25 on monday evening.
Minus one times recon! gearbox.
That one lasted long,now to go through the garantee proses.
I only hope my special parts i supplyed to the rebuilder arent damaged by the fault(suspected pinion bearing failure or lockating ring failure)
But besides that had a great weekend.
Thanks to all who were there
And a big thanks to Ian for recovering me 4 hours away(just north of Lankaster)

Sorry you had the breakage, at least it was'nt in Morocco, Coney Green must be more severe than all that travelling you did. Real shame Hope its not too expensive Russell. Good to have you down in sunny Worcestershire.

Sorry to hear that Russel, esp. after our chat a while ago about boxes and weak points, trust they will come good.

..and many thanks for taking the lead with some of the activities over the weekend, and giving good advice to those asking (or deserving).

NB. Checkout Andy Simpson's post mortem above, failed main bearing cap bolt, resulting in a right mess. Not that different than the block we were looking at, with it's end cap split in two. Maybe those main bearing bolts are a stretch/fatigue weakness, Andy had never removed them once.

heh, your not allowed to break down, like im not!

I remember a few years ago when I was planning a trip to the Alpes, I was looking for breakdown insurance for use longer than the normal 3 months away from home. Some donut (who shall remain nameless, but i do know who it was, and I havn't forgotten!) suggested that i do not need breakdown insurance as I was a mechanic and should be able to fix everything at the side of the road! idiot! How do i strip and rebuild an engine, or gearbox on the hard shoulder!

I've had my monies worth out of Brittania Rescue over the years! Taunton to Huddersfield after hybrid clutch death, and Warrington to Hudds after getting jiggy with the boost and racing down the motorway to Bustypes a few years ago killing off my m-tdi!

I get the same comments and have never needed them untill friday, mine would of been an interesting repair on the hard shoulder.

The plus point was the RAC were excellent, i phoned up explained engine had expired, it was a permantent 4wd and needed a flat bed, they sent one out no problem without sending one of their patrols out to cnfirm it.

Sorry to hear about your gearbox russel i know the feeling well.

This is the first time i have had something this bad go wrong.I have managed to fix all the other small glitches on the road(exept my first mechamical pump that disintegrated at the workshop door reversing the van in to do other work to it)
The big dissapointement is the fact that i spent a very lot of money on it to prevent this from hapening in the first place.But as everything in life there are may obstakles we have to cross.

Yes Clive i think the company in question will honour the warranty.

Oh dear.. sorry to hear about that Russell.... hope you can get it sorted soon... looks like that 2nd trip will have to be put on hold for a while then
