Is this the right timing mark?

can't quite see properly, but the mark for the pump is actually a hole! the pump pully also has a hole and locks the pump in place, special tool recommeded...or in my case when I didn't have one a modified M8 bolt if I remember correctly.
tool for cam also required, or again a flat piece of steel will do it

Hi Kermit and thank you for the replay, it's me again with my pump timing story still without success. Even those people advertise themselves as mobile mechanics don't bolder to come have a look once you tell them injection pump.
Today managed to make start really ruffle with big cloth of white stock, what does mean white smok? I have (timed it) at .86mm is it correct? Perhaps I should put it at 1mm

So its running, but rough with white smoke? lots of diesel out the exhaust?
Proberly injecting too late, so all the pullys are correctly aligned??
The flywheel should be inline, the cam locked in at the back and the pump pully inline with the hole in the backplate? once the pullys are correct then set up the pump
the 0.86 sounds good, this method is not in the book, but mark the pump where it is now, slacken off the pump bolts and turn the pump slightly(only a fraction!) see if she runs better, you want to get her injecting a bit earlier, can't remember which way that should be off hand
Whats the story with the engine? looks like you've has the head off from your picture, are the valve clearances ok between the cam and shim?
any further help required, just ask
