What fuel tank seal?

Post by SteveW »

JK do 2 Fuel tank seals 50mm and 70mm

J10758 50mm Plastic Neck Seal Type 25 August 1985 to November 1990 £7.95

J11055 70mm Metal Filler Neck Seal Type 25 June 1979 to July 1985 £9.95

The ID of the seal that I need to replace is 50mm but has a metal filler pipe so I would of thought we need the 79 - 85 70mm seal?

Do the 50 and 70 refer to part of the fuel filler pipe and have no relevance to the actual size of the seal?
The nice girl from JK say's that we need the later part but I have my doubts what do you lot think?

I would have thought that the 50mm ID of the seal would then meen that the hole in the tank is 70mm? Mocki can you confirm? Thanks

if you got a metal filler neck then you need the 70mm seal and obviously if its plastic then the 50mm seal.

Not my Van it is the kids van and 200 miles away in Liverpool. It is an 84 Caravelle. I have had the son in law measure the hole in the seal which is 50mm and indeed has a metal filler pipe. I had a quick look at mine today 90 model with plastic filler the ID of that seal looks around 40mm

Have ordered the 70mm seal from JK even though they insisted that if the ID was 50mm we needed a 50mm seal  Not to easy to order from VAG round these parts as they will not take payment over the phone and the nearest one is further away than is comfortable to do in a lunch break so 2 x 30 mile round trips work out more than the difference in price and postage + I get to eat my lunch

I am off up to Liverpool to fit the new old tank at the weekend.
