strange electrics

Post by scouse »

Help!!!!!

1. When I switch the lights on dipped beam. The main beam light illuminates on the dash, and the indicators light up with the headlights, but no main beam.

2. Lights switched off, and when I flash the main beam lights stay on dipped but the indicators lights up.

3. When the head lights are on dipped beam, and indicators are switched on, both the lights and indicators flach very fast together.

4,brake lights work ok.

All started to go wrong when I noticed that when you use the dash mounted light switch, and turn on the dipped beam, the main beam light flashed for a short second on the dash, and then went off.

Any ideas what may be wrong. Sounds like a problem with the colum lever controlling the indicators and indicators

Thanks

Yup. Bad earth.
Clean them up, check all the crimp connectors are secure, and make sure the spiders are secure to the body work.

Thanks for the prompt response.

I have found the earth block above the fuse box.
Are there any other earthing points I should be looking for?.
The battery one is fine, and just to note the radio is earthed to the block above the fuses, and it works fine.

The side lights work ok, it is only when I use the indictors, dipped beam and main beam.

Thngs now getting crazy

Post by scouse »

I have located the problem with my headlights and indicators. It was a bad earth, and one of the connecting blocks behind the fuse box.

Now when I put the lights on with the iginition on all the dash light go out, and the main beam light does not work. (the oil and batt lights work)

When I switch the lights on with the ignition off all the dash lights work!!

Any suggestions please. Cant get use to not seeing me speedo etc at night.

Thanks

I had this on my old camper - turned out it was a dicky connection in that plastic bit (sorry to go all technical on you  ) that the printed circuit 'web' plugs into behind the dash. Try giving the plastic bits wires a gentle woble/tug. Worked for me :)

I cannot believe the automatic naughty word blocker changed that word. Substitute 'unreliable' for 'tom and harry'.
