Exhaust probs

I've got a J reg 1900cc T25.

The exhaust is looking a bit tatty ie the box is starting to rust through and the connecting piping is starting to look abit thin. It appears to have a cat fitted just before the main silencer box.

Question is does it legally need a cat and would a stainless steel system be more economical in the long run??

i think nowadays u have to have a cat if there was one already fitted for the mot else it wont pass,i know some people who have a straight thru pipe but then have to change it everytime their mot comes up seems like a lot of hassle to me, i had to replace the cat in me t4 before i sold it they aint cheap bout £70 to £80 well for the t4 anyways

Vehicles registered before 1992 do not need a catalytic convertor even if fitted from the factory. I'm sure J was about the crossover Reg, if you like. Check your V5C for date of first use or check with your local MoT Test centre. Stainless exhausts would be more economical if you plan to keep your van for more than 2 years!

£80 quid is dear??? for a cat?? I remember the last time I looked they were 500 quid.... was a while ago...
Cant be a lot of precous metal in an 80 quid one though... its that plating the honeycomb that costs...

Remember they didnt make many in 1992... and I doubt any in RHD... (if it is) more like it was sat in a dealers for a good while so the actual build date should be a lot earlier..
You may find that the cat colapsed years ago and was knocked out, just leave it in there and if it passes the MOT Bobs yer uncle..!!!
