Terratec's TV tuner isn't much bigger than a USB flash drive. Powered through the USB connector, it receives Freeview and analog TV.
CyberLink's PowerCinema 4 handles recording, timeshifting, EPG and DVD burning. It also shows photos and plays music, and is simple to control with the infrared remote. We saw excellent picture and sound with digital Freeview, transforming our laptop into a stable, clear TV in areas with a good signal. However, we needed a 1.86GHz Pentium M for smooth timeshifting.
A short adaptor takes S-Video, composite video and stereo audio input, so you can record from an external player or camcorder. Analog TV was noisy and lacked synchronisation between sound and picture, so should be used as a backup only if you can't receive Freeview.
Despite the hefty price, the Cinergy's tiny size makes it a superb addition to a powerful notebook.
