Ripped My Nuts Off
I tried to take my rear wheels off yesterday to adjust up the rear brakes as the adjusters aren't the best. With my 18" Snap On power bar and 19mm 6 sided impact socket I treid to undo the nuts. First by hand power, then by jumping up and down on it-and yes I was going in the right direction. I managed to get one moving when I noticed it wasn't! The nut was moving, but the piece that sits against the wheel stayed there. It would appear I literally ripped off the nut. I can't get the rest off either, so anybody got any ideas. Hammer and chisel maybe? I will be using new nuts when I manage to do it.
Heat the nuts before using the powerbar again, on the stuck nut use a nut splitter or a grinder (nut splitters are not nearly as fun. YEEHA
)
And before you say, I've not got a grinder, you can buy a 4 1/2 inch grinder from Wilkinsons for £14.99, then you need safety glasses, gloves and a mild steel cutting disc, probably £20 all in, you might need to buy some sparks for the grinder too
You can use the grinder for other purposes too, grinding, polishing, gardening, painting. (the list is endless)

Another option is to remove the big 46mm nut and take the wheel, drum and rear hub off as one, then grind the back of the studs off and ten replace with new ones, or if the nuts are spinning weld the studs to the hub then spin the nuts off. There are a few other ways including drilling the nuts before trying to split then with a sharp chissel.

Will do. I might see about buying the longer studs that people-like Baxter-sell, as mine are flush with the end of the nut, and if I want some alloys in the future it'll save a lot of messing about then. But at the moment the stud definately ain't turning. If I get my camera out I'll post a picture of the sheared nut.
