leatherette fabric

Thinking of using leatherette fabric for my new rock n roll bed. My mum is very handy with a sewing machine, so was going to get her to do it for me, but shes never used this fabric before. Anyone know if you can use it with a normal sewing machine?
Any tips, or pics of yours?

We have just re-covered all our internal panels in it, thats just streatched over and stapled, but the staples seem to hold well so i guess it would machine quite easily.

I used leatherette/fabric mix on rear bench and leatherette on door panels of my camper last year, my mum was locked away under the stairs and not allowed out until it was finished, well pleased with the result, she said it was easier to work with than fabric.

Komet, are your cushions permanently attached to seat or removeable? I like the two tone effect, hadn't considered using a bit of both.
where do you get your leatherette from? Is it easily obtainable from material places, or do you get from a specialist place? Wondering how much it costs roughly too.

We got ours from dunelm mill, thay have a good selection of fabrics and colours.

Note: seat cushions need to be fastened down on a r `n` r bed, or the seat belts will be useless in an accident. See JK website, seatbelts, for info.

Hi Kathy

My cushions are fixed, the fabric is stapled to the underside of the seat, that way you can get tension on the fabric which looks a lot better, i also added more foam along the front of the seat to give support under the knee and give a better look, I used a mix of both as i liked the idea of leatherette but didnt want to be sticking to it in hot weather on long journeys. I got the leatherette from a local car trimmers at about £7 per metre, however you can get cheaper from shows.

Leatherette is fairly cheap at your local fabric factory warehouse.
