For some reason Simon, we're often invited to a psychic abilities test or a simple guessing game here on Tech Advice :)

I think some like it that way actually...

Still, we're there now, just need to know if it doesn't crank well or is a plain bad starter. High compression engine, but so is the DJ.

Bad connection?
Bad battery?
Bad starter?

Try new wire connect it directly (not in the van) to the battery
Try new starter on other battery (old battery still got a bit of charge?)
Take starter back to company to test.

You have to ask why the van didn't start in the first place, mine starts within two turns.

ok i got it going now (with help!) Thanks for your posts..

we had to throw the starter out with the ignition then short the starter manually with a screwdriver...ever since it seems to be starting. Never in two turns mind you!
