Whats that knocking?

Post by Beach Bum »

Ok, a while ago I started getting a knocking from the back of the van. The noise subsided or it could just be that I've not really used the van for a while. Anyway just been to Angelsey for 5 days and on the way I heard the faint knocking from the rear again. Day 4 it got really loud. Had alook under the van and couldn't see anything loose. On the way home today the knocking got really loud and the van kept loosing power, though I'm sure it's not engine related. It's almost as if the breaks are coming on. There was also a burning smell for a short time like brake/clutch. Could it be a clapsed wheel bearing or is it more likely to be a drive shaft or axle problem, any thoughts?
Always remember one thing my friend, this is the real thing. Life is not a dress rehearsal. So live life to the full with your BUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had that problem with my old t4 now i know this sounds really stupid but have you checked that all your wheel nuts are tight? i only say this as i drove nearly 20 miles with a knocking noise that was getting louder i stopped several times to check underneath to see what it could be,never checking the old wheel nuts turns out that all four were only finger tight and the wheel became damgaged and that was the knocking noise coming from the rear, it might not be but worth a check :) hope this helps a little sorry im no techie
