Installed 2nd hand Eberspacher - it keeps blowing main fuse!

Post by mahatmacoat »

I've had a good search on here & have spent mainy hours chasing the wiring with a multimeter looking for faults & shorts, but still no joy.

I was sold the Eber as a working unit but have yet to prove it. The wiring to the thermostat on it was very dodgy with lots of block connectors, miscellaneous wire & insulation tape, so have VERY carefully removed all the crap wire & soldered/heatshrunk all the dodgy connections. I have checked & rechecked the 3 wires & am 99.9% certain they are correct (checked against schematic).

When I switch it on at the thermostat on/off switch the fuel pump sometimes clicks once or twice & then the 15A inline fuse from the battery blows. I have checked that the fuel pump works by putting 12v direct to it (it needs a pulsed current to work doesn't it?!) & it seems to be okay. I don't want to keep trying it in case it damages anything else!

How do you prime these pumps as I can't suck fuel through it?

I have now run out of ideas. Are there any Eber experts in the Warwickshire/Midlands area I can visit? Is there anything I should be checking?

Please help, surfing & coming back to a cold van isn't much fun!

The pumps pulse so they try to start and then when no fuel gets through it stops and after a short delay, minute or so (?) tries again and fires up. Thus there's no need to bleed them.

Re the fuse, mine could of course be wrong, but it's got a 30A fuse in it and a 30A relay replacing the old BT hour timer box (Thanks Steve Mocki  ) and it works just fine.

Cheers,Ian.

Damn, I was hoping it was that simple for a minute, but have checked the manual & the D1L has a 16amp main fuse. a***!

So any further ideas or ideas of who may be able to help?
