Swap help

Post by Pat Dolan »

Nah, not wife swapping, ENGINE swapping.

I was referred to this jolly lot from a member over at vwvortex. Looking around, it seems that there are as many change-out artists in the UK for T3/T4 as NA has for cars! Hope I can find some required info.

We are amassing the parts for a 2.5TDI into T3 (Syncro Westy). Got an engine (w/wiring, ECU, key), bellhousing, vehicle (low mile '87, now with 1.8 inline gasser convert).

The engine we have is a AJT, supposedly from an '03 T4. Can anyone verify that?

We DESPARATELY need the correct shop manual for this engine. Perfer print Bentley, but would be happy with CD if no other. Problem is, nothing like this was ever sold in Canada (never mind US). We got the 2.4, but the poor yanks were stuck with gas burners. Where do I find such?

Would like either the "other" T3 manual (have Bentley for US model), just to be able to sort out the stuff required to do center and front diff locks. Would be just as happy with those pages. Need to know if there is a different front housing and where/how the center works with the viscous coupling??

Slow moving project (it is -30 or so here right now - so we are all working on ice racers), but need to make progress.

Kerr:

I don't know quite how to take that list.

There's the AJT in the '01 Eurovan and up to '03 Transporter. Then, you expose my innocence to 1.9TDIs occurring in Sharans and Lupos. "pooh", we don't even get those cars here, never mind w/TDI!

You make it very difficult for a colonial to remain abroad.

Thanks anyhow (sniff, sniff).
