2.1 DJ Engine Exhaust Valve Guides . . .Where From ? ?

Post by wasserleaker »

Hi all,
Anyone know where i can get hold of 4 new exh. valve guides for a 2.1 DJ engine? the chap at the main dealers told me they're obsolete, GSF list them at 4 quid each but i had a look at the ones they said were for the 1.9 and 2.1 watercooled engines [ their part no. 14484] and they were nothing like my old ones, mine are 9mm bore and plain diameter on the outside, the ones they showed me had a ledge or step at the top, on the outside. are these just a different design, and ok to use, does any one know, or totally wrong? ? ?
my only other option is to get some manganese bronze bar and make some at work on the lathe, as nowhere i've tried seems able to help.
surely somewhere must do them, im desperate to get me van back on the road and this prob is holding the job up. any advice would be great!
cheers, Wasserleaker

Thanks for the reply, Matt,
It was Parkway at pride park derby that said they were obsolete, mate, but i have been back to GSF at Sneinton nottm, with one of my old knackrd guides, a micrometer and steel rule and also a new exh. valve and im pretty sur the ones they stock are going to be ok, they measure up the same apart from having a stepped top to stop the guide going through, [my orig. ones are plain diam. with no step] think its prob just a different design, sure they"ll be fine. thanks Matt, Wasserleaker.

Cheers T'Onion,
Had a look at the ebay link and i reckon they must be inlet guides, the 13.3mm and 8.5mm dimensions they have on there are different on the exh. guides, and the part number ends in 417A instead of 419, cheers for the help tho mate, i,ve bought the ones from GSF now and will get them over to the chap who is going to press em in and recut the valve seats this weekend hopefully,
with any luck the heads can go back on then, and engine back in, should be bussin about again soon!
