TD: Fuel leak..

Post by syncroandy »

I filled up the TD single-cabs tank last week for the first time, and it's been parked during week the on a camber with the offside to the kerb. Today I noticed a suspicious pool under the rear offside.

With the tank full, and the vehicle canted over, it seems like one of the breather hoses is letting the fuel out. Theres a thickish one that goes from a boss on the tank to the steel filler neck, and also a thinner one that comes from a float-valve and also joins the filler neck. Though access is very tight, it may just be possible to renew these without dropping the tank. I looked on ETOS but it doesn't show these hoses, does anyone know the part number ?

Andy

Duh ! Just found the hoses on ETOS, the thick stuff is 15x2.5, the thin is 5.5x3.

Thats sounds like a fun job. It maybe a ggod idea to replace the float valves at same time, they go very brittle and are only about £8 each.

Sam has replaced the float valves on his, tank out job - maybe just don't fill it more than 3/4 for now Andy.

N 020 362 1 Hose 15x2.5 (830mm for a 251, 256, 430mm for -245)

N 900 996 01 Hose 5.5x3 (1750 + 865 for all + 520 for a -245)

Also list a 12x3.5 but not against a -245 vehicle code

All in 5m coils of coursem, a round £10 to £20 ea.

That was on a petrol Clive, it may be possible on a diesel without dropping the tank, I have no idea.

It maybe a ggod idea to replace the float valves at same time, they go very brittle and are only about £8 each.

They seem to go brittle very quickly, so unless they are causing a problem, I personally wouldn't bother.

Cheers,

Sam.

Problem solved in the short term by parking facing the other way :)

The leak seems to be from a short length of breather hose which I may be able to replace in situ, the only tricky bit is access to the inner end.
