Rear shock base - any alternatives

Post by sonic23 »

Morning all,
I'm just about to refit my rear arms and suspension and was wondering if there are any aftermarket base plastic/urethane discs that the springs sit on as my originals are worn and look pretty worn and manky. Maybe ones that provide some extra lift?

251 511 139 is the original part no.

cheers,
Rich

speak to cj or get another set of top spring rubbers as these are a bit thicker and will give about 10mm lift, or we can make some at whatever thickness you need. :D

Morning Dave - it's actually the lower ones. The originals are made of plastic. Not sure if these can be replaced with rubber/Urethane?

im sure the petrol syncro had a flimsy plastic disc and the diesel syncro came with the ally discs,so you could borrow some ally ones try them out,cj.

What's the part number you've got on those Ally ones CJ?

I've been on ETOS and all I can see for a part number for these are:
251 511 139
251 511 139 A (which is for a 16" inch)

My petrol had worn through plastic (original) type discs, the new VW ones look like they'll last a while, a clear tough plastic, that feels like polythene or neoprene?
Diesel Doka has those thicker cast ally ones with the spring rest spiral. They can turn to dust if any salt's about just as quickly. I spread a load of Duralac chromate paste under them to avoid them corroding onto the steel radius arms.

all 2WD and 4WD Petrol have a thin clear plastic plate that goes onto the bottom arm and is shaped for the pigtail on the end of the spring.
You will ba able to get them from any 2WD van, and 4WD petrol.

The Diesel 4WD has the aforementioned aluminium alloy spacer to make up for the increased weight of the Diesel engine.
