battery chargers

On the Westy the OE Black Buzzin Box comes on as soon as you hook up the 240V cable. You then get 240V running through a 10A trip and RCD unit in the `van, ie fridge will run on 240V when switched over on fridge panel (3 way fridge), and you have 240V electrical socket (s) to plug into. The 12V interior lights and anything else wired into the 12V leisure battery side of things will obviously work from the 12V leisure battery system (which is now being charged up from the B.B.B by the 240V hook-up, as is the main starter battery). I can`t see what more you will be needing to do with the charger/distributor/whatever it is orange box thing you`re looking at, or am I missing something??

ok my fault didn't give much info on my first post

the orange calira box on mine is hardwired into the van,
one power outlet charges the leisure and main battery,
another power outlet (12a) runs 6 interior lights-one exterior light-a huge truma blown air heating system-kitchen and bathroom taps and the shower

to put it simply when I'm on hookup nothing is being powered by the leisure battery, it is isolated and only receives a charge

I'm trying to replace the charger/psu with a modern equivalent like out of the new motorhomes/caravans, I would have to modify the wiring to just fit a charger and I don't really fancy that because I have this lovely bundle

fuse box is on the other side of leccy board and the two black bits on the board are 30a and 75a relays

i see there are screws on the casing, perhaps you could get it repaired, ask around, nothing to lose if someone blows it up trying to fix it. Is the alternative 412 Wiloughby sugests no good then/?

yep, I'm looking local for a repairer

the 412 is probably good but for 200 euros plus delivery I'll leave that as a last resort

But I was certain I had seen one of these calira units in a devon which is why I wondered if anyone had replaced one before plus I'm trying to keep the fixtures as original as possible coz these vans are worth a fortune now

It`s got a transformer built into it as well as the charger. Think my Westy BBB does basically the same thing by a different method. Not sure of the charging rate though. Runs the lights and the Eberspacher from the leisure batteries, along with the water pump. Modded my `vans wiring so all the interior electrical runs from the leisure batt, radio and interior lights ran from main battery as OE, now all run from the leisure batteries so no chance of flattening the main batt. when not hooked up.
